Bird Updates and Gift Card Competition
A $30 gift card could be yours for the taking! And what are Substack Notes anyway?
Thank you everyone for joining the bird bandwagon! We are speeding our way towards 100 subscribers! To speed this process up, and to reward my loyal readers, I thought it would be fun to launch a little competition. Starting today through 5:00pm EST Tuesday June 13th, anyone who joins the below campaign and refers new subscribers will have a chance to win a $30 e-gift card to either Petco or PetSmart. So please share the word about Bird Time! with your friends, family, and colleagues. Remember, the birding will continue until morale improves!
Substack Notes Exist Now, But What Do Y’all Readers Want?
The Substack platform (which Bird Time! is published through) now has a new feature called “Notes” which is basically just like Twitter but way less toxic and meant for author-to-reader engagement rather than angry hot takes. I may try this feature out by posting some photos and interacting with other birders on Substack. If you like this idea, you could join in the conversation via the app or website. But unless y’all really want me to go all in on it, I probably won’t do too much with Notes. So vote below and tell me how you really feel!
What this means for you is that when I finally post my first Note you may get a notification or email about it. You shouldn’t get any additional emails, but if you do and don’t like it please go here for instructions on how to turn them off. If you have the Substack app on your phone or regularly login to the website (as opposed to just reading the emails I send) then you may see notifications on there too.
How the Bird Time! Blog Works
To briefly refresh everyone, this Bird Time! newsletter is a sub-part of my blog called Grover’s Grotto, which is hosted on the platform called Substack. The idea behind Grover’s Grotto was to have a place to publish all of my creative endeavors. After all, as a kid I had tons of fun making comic strips, stop-motion movies, styrofoam spaceships, and short stories. I still intend to publish other, non-bird, creative things on here but when that happens it will be through a newsletter by another name (though still under the Grover’s Grotto umbrella).
Also, I’ve taken advantage of Substack’s homepage template updates to give Grover’s Grotto brand-new look. From now on, you’ll see several of the latest and greatest bird articles and photos prominently displayed in one place:
Finally, please consider signing up and referring folks to the blog. If you know someone who likes birds and quirky stories, then give us a shoutout.
Until next (Bird!) time,
Grover
